More Quotes from John G. Lake

Here's some stirring stuff from John G. Lake.

"You will pardon me, but I have this consciousness when I am preaching; there comes up a wave from the congregation of a kind of stultified unbelief. Do you know where it comes from? It comes from all the years you have sat under false teachers. You have been taught that to be humble you have got to say you are a sinner, you are no good, you don't amount to anything. You sing, 'Weak and sickly, vile and full of sin I am.' I do not like to preach one thing, and Charles Wesley another. If you are born again, you are a son of God. And for you to tear yourself out of your sonship, your relationship and the righteousness of God, and put yourself over in the reality of death, and tell God you are dirty and unclean, that His blood has not cleansed you, and His life has not been delivered to you, it is a monstrous thing. It is all right to sing that as an unregenerate, but it is not the experience of the sons and daughters of God.

Here is our position through Jesus Christ. God has become our righteousness. We have become His very sons and daughters, and you sing weakness, and you talk weakness and you pray weakness, and you sing unbelief, and you pray and talk it, and you go out and live it. You are like that good old woman. She said, 'I do love that doctrine of falling from grace, and I practice it all the time.' Another man said, 'Brother, I believe in the dual nature. I believe that when I would do good, evil is always present with me, and I thank God that evil is always there.'

You live it and you believe it, and God cannot do anything with you. You magnify failure and you defy failure until to the majority of you, the devil is bigger than God. And you are more afraid of the devil than you are of God. You have more reverence of the devil than you have for God. If any saint would dare to say, "I am done with disease and sickness; I will never be sick again,' ninety percent of you would say, 'Keep your eyes on that person. He will be sick in a week. The devil sure will get him.' You believe the devil is bigger than God. Your God is about one and a half inches high and the devil is one and a half feet high. What you need to do is to change gods and change gods quickly. There have been only a few folk that had a good-sized God."

(Lake, pg. 70-71).

------

"But my heart was crying for deliverance; my soul had come to the place where I had VOMITED up dependence on man. My father had spent a fortune on the family, to no avail, as if there was no stoppage to the train of hell. And let me tell you, there IS NOT HUMAN STOPPAGE because the thing is settled deep in the nature of man; too deep for any material remedy to get at it. It takes the Almighty God and the Holy Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ to get down into the depth of man's nature and find the real difficulty that is there and destroy it."

(Lake, pg. 83).

Thoughts on David Hogan

David Hogan was here this weekend at Bethel. I'm still pretty much speechless about what I heard and experienced and witnessed through his life this weekend.

I have never seen a man who walks in this realm of faith and bare bones fearlessness in proclaiming and demonstrating the power of Jesus. I feel this new hunger and desperation for God in my soul. I'm confronted with my unbelief and reasonings that rationalize the impossible away so often.

I see in David a man who has already died. So he's not afraid to. Isn't that where all the problems start? When we're afraid of what will happen to us, and afraid of giving up the right to self-preservation. Life without options sounds scary to lots of us in comfortable America. I remember tasting a bit of the option-less life when I lived in Africa...and that yields lots of opportunity for God to show up because there's not a plan B.

I want to be possessed by God like that man is. A yielded heart that says yes to Holy Spirit all the time, whether it's a whisper or a trumpet. Man, if we can just give up our religious systems! It's really not that costly to be honest. We're giving up all that to gain real freedom.

Real freedom is where offense comes, but we don't take it. We're so prone to be offended at what we don't understand. No, this isn't a works-based gospel, but you know a man by his fruit. For heaven's sakes, Jesus is helping so many people!

As Bill says, we've got to change the way we think.

Seeing David this weekend, I've got this new hunger for God that is filling my heart. I want to be even more hungry. Hungry to be hungry. And you know what else is happening is that I am itching to go to the nations again. I want to go back. Lord open the doors, make it happen.

I'm hungry for You God. I want more. It's like this hunger has come over my heart in a fresh way. I really believe I received that impartation of hunger from David Hogan.

Word of Knowledge at Yak's

This past week, I met up with my friend Danny at Yak's the coffee shop. Right before we left, I felt a tingling on my right ear, and I looked around to see who were near us.

One of the girls who works at Yak's was sitting right near us, and I asked her (her name is Sherrill), "Do you happen to have pain or problems in your right ear?" She said, "No, but I'll go check in the back to see if the other guys might." Danny and I ended up leaving.

Yesterday I went back to Yak's to meet up with another friend of mine Peter. As soon as I rode up and parked, Sherrill was sitting right in front of me and she said, "I've got something to tell you." She said, "You remember the other day you had the word of knowledge about the right ear? Well it turns out that Allen has had 50% hearing loss in his right ear!"

Peter and I asked Sherrill if she could go get Allen. She did, and Allen told us that he's had 7 surgeries on his right ear, and that some friends of his spent an hour and a half praying for him the night before. When they did, he felt like a muffled oppression cover his ear. He said he's had 50% hearing loss in that ear. It's time for that stop in Jesus' name.

Peter and I went with Allen into a side room to pray for him. Allen got filled up with the presence of God. In fact, he said he felt his ear pop some when we were praying for him. We had several right on prophetic words for him as well. God touched Allen's life!

Then right after that, I got a word of knowledge for pain in the calf area of the left leg. I asked if Allen had those symptoms. No. Peter did though. Jesus touched him too, and he felt tingling massaging sensations go through his calf muscles, and he felt a relief from the pain and soreness.

Newsletter August 2008

It’s been on my heart to send out an update of what’s happening in my life lately, and what I’m doing this coming year here at Bethel.

I finished the 1st year at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in May, which was probably the most restoring, freeing, and healing year of my life. God did so much in me and through me this past year, and I’ve been connected to a community of people here who are hungry for the presence of God, and to see revival and His Kingdom come to earth. I’ve been able to develop lots of deep relationships here, as well as strengthen existing relationships with people who live in other parts of the world. God has given me some amazing fathers and mothers in the Lord out here, as well as covenant friends.

God has brought me through a process of a lot of restoration and healing in my own life this year, as well as restoration of relationships that were frayed through some painful things that happened in Africa. I’m so thankful for God’s grace and how He restores and makes things new. I’ve learned more about how powerful forgiveness is, and how powerful it is when we extend grace to others. Also, this past year as I’ve lived in Redding, I’ve seen many sick people healed by the power of God, not just on ministry trips, but in every day life as I’m in the store, mall, out and about. God wants to touch people miraculously through our lives if we’ll just yield to Him and allow Him to move through us. I have a blog online where I’ve recorded some of these stories of healings and other God stories of God touching people. If you’re interested in reading more, click here.

One of the cries of my heart is to discover afresh my destiny and call from God. Early on last year, it became clear to me that my time at Bethel was not just for a year, but longer. The school is actually a 3 year program, and I decided to continue and go to the 2nd year program this coming year. It’s a continuation of the 1st year, with a huge focus of being developed as a leader in an empowering way. This is something I’m really excited about, is how to become a leader who is empowering rather than restricting, where people feel free to be themselves in God and not bound to a cookie cutter mould.

The 2nd year program is really exciting to me for other reasons too. We will get to travel with Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, Danny Silk, and other leaders at Bethel on their ministry trips. I can’t wait for that!

Even more than ministry, though, the main reason I’m at Bethel is because I’m hungry for the manifest presence of God in deeper ways than I’ve yet experienced. If I can have the presence of God, then that’s enough. Even seeing the sick healed doesn’t compare to just being with God for a moment.

This summer has been sort of a trying time for me as I’ve been looking for a job to help me pay for school this coming year and other expenses. The Redding job market is struggling, and it’s been exhausting looking for a job for about 3 months with almost no results. I recently started teaming up with a friend of mine selling subscriptions to the local newspaper, but I am still contending for financial breakthrough and provision, not just for school this year, but for basic needs as well.

I would like to ask you to consider asking the Lord about contributing to my tuition for school and/or personal expenses for this coming year. (The cost of 2nd year is $3,600). $1,800 of that is due by September 8th. If you would like to donate towards tuition, you can make your check payable to Bethel Church. Please include a note that says, 2nd Year Tuition for Adam Short, and mail it to:

If you would like to donate to help with my personal expenses, you can donate online at www.shortadam.com. There's a button on the left side of the page called "Support Adam Online." When you click that, you will be redirected to PayPal, which accepts all credit and debit cards via a secure connection.

I want to say again thanks for how generous you’ve been in the past as I was in Africa, France, and Kansas City. Bless you and I pray for the love and peace of God to fill your heart today!!

Love,

Adam

Quotes From John G. Lake

" 'Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter, feelings lie buried that grace can restore, touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, chords that were broken will vibrate once more.'

I care not how crushed the soul, how beastialized the nature, I care not how sensual, if touched by the Spirit of the living God, he will shed off that which is earthly and sensual, and give forth once again the pure note of the living God, heaven's high message, heaven's triumphant song, heaven's high note of living praise to the living God. Blessed be His Name. God is endeavoring by His Spirit in these days to exalt the souls of men into that high place, that holy life, that heavenly state whereby men walk day by day, hour by hour in the heavenly consciousness of the presence of Christ in the heart of man all the time." (John G. Lake pg. 48).

30+ People on a Treasure Hunt

Today I had the privilege of leading an outreach team of 30+ people who were here for the JesusCulture Conference.

It was phenomenal what God did. I definitely was out of my comfort zone, taking risks, etc. by leading them. Obviously, in a group that size, there was some overlap in the words of knowledge and prophetic words that people received. Our assigned location was Martin Luther King Park, which is within walking distance from my apartment, so we were in my neighborhood! Most of our group were from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA...meaning that everybody in the group was either in the military, was in the military in the past, or are children of military parents. It's fitting that they were almost all black! God gave me the black folk! Yes. Beautiful. Then the other part of our group were 6 or 7 girls from Washington, who were awesome. Our whole group was awesome. Once we got to the park, I asked people to throw out some of the words that Holy Spirit had given them. Three or four people had the word butterfly. Then somebody else had a word of knowledge that somebody had throat pain. Right then one of the girls in the Travis AFB said, "That's me!" I have a butterfly tattoo, and I have a sore throat! So I had the people who had that word to go lay hands on her and pray for her. Man these kids are full of boldness, faith, courage, and power. She was feeling better after they prayed.

We split up into groups, and I took a couple teams to go knock on doors. Some of the others went to a nearby nursing home, and fanned out along some other medical buildings in the area.

In our groups that went knocking on doors, one of the girls from WA had a picture of a frog. I had gotten the number 18, along with right foot pain, green beans, to name a few. One of the other girls got a word of knowledge for bad pain in the right thigh. As we were walking along, we noticed that the house number of the house right in front of us was 18 something! Then one of the girls spotted an artificial frog hanging from a windchime! We were stoked, because this was very specific. We went to knock on the door, and we saw a sign hanging right by the door that said, "Jesus Country."!! Makayla was so bold...she explained how the Lord had spoken to her about the frog, and we asked her if she needed prayer for anything. She said no, and that she goes to Little Country Church. We thanked her and walked away. Then we realized that both I and Kayley had gotten a word of knowledge for right foot/leg pain, so we decided to go back and ask the lady if we could pray for her foot, because she had told us that she had diabetes and right foot problems.

So we went back to the door and asked the lady if we could pray for her foot. She declined again, which was OK because God doesn't reward us based on if the person says yes to prayer or not, but if we were faithful.

We kept walking, and knocked on another door, this time a young boy named Justin answered. When we asked him if anybody in the house needed prayer for healing or anything, he said no. But then he started telling us about his grandmother who lives in Palo Cedro, who broke her hip I think. And she had some other problems. Kayley or Makayla prayed for Justin's grandmother.

The next house we went to, we knocked on the door, but nobody was home. But what was interesting was that there were a few butterfly decorations on the porch, and a butterfly sticker on their SUV. Once again it was a confirmation of the butterfly words that a few people received.

One of the girls in the group had a word of knowledge for pain in the right thigh, and I had received a word for the right foot. As we were walking down the street, John, the pastor of the group from Travis AFB, looked and saw a guy sitting in front of his house with a prosthetic right leg. We all remembered the words we had gotten about the right leg/foot. We approached him, and John asked him if we could pray for him, and he let us. His name is Chris.

Another cool encounter that happened happened with the ice cream truck lady. We were browsing around an apartment complex, and the ice cream truck rolled in. John got all excited because somebody in his group received a snowcone word! They went to talk to the ice cream lady, and they got to pray for her.

It was fun to be the leader of this group...in an empowering way. The kids were so bold and courageous and accurate in what they heard from God. And full of love!
